The data
Everything on this site comes from the files below, so anyone can check the math: every forecast as it was published, every score, and what the weather did. They're rebuilt every 30 minutes.
Spreadsheets
These open in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. Times are Kansas City time; temperatures are °F.
- scores.csv 0 rows
- Every forecast that has been scored, next to what happened: who made it, the day it was made (its 9 a.m. forecast), how many days ahead, the forecast high, low and rain chance, the actual ones, and the miss in degrees. Empty until the first forecasts are scored.
- forecasts.csv 255 rows
- Every forecast collected, one row per forecaster, version and day: when it was first and last seen, when the forecaster published it (where it says), and the high, low, chance of rain and words. A new version is kept each time a forecaster changes its forecast.
- weather.csv 7 days
- What the weather did at KCI each day: the official high, the official low and when it happened, the low forecasts are scored against (see How it works), and the rain (T is a trace, too little to measure).
For programmers
- current.json
- Each forecaster's current forecast for today and the next seven days, as on the home page.
- verification.json
- The scored forecasts and the daily weather, as in scores.csv and weather.csv.
Where it comes from
Forecasts are quoted from what each forecaster publishes (see Sources); the weather is the National Weather Service's official record for Kansas City International. The copy of each page or picture a forecast was read from is kept too, so any number can be checked against the original.
